Position Summary

The Nurse Manager is a leader who demonstrates proficiency in all Quality leadership skills. The Nurse Manager expertly manages the care of a patient population and practices expert critical thinking skills when in the clinical setting. The Nurse Manager acts as liaison between patients, clinical staff, physicians and the administration. The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall management and supervision of the Practice Plan clinical and supervisory staff provided within the Department of Health Informatics Institutes, Health Diabetes & Endocrinology clinical program, which encompasses several divisions including, Morsani Diabetes Center, Westshore Diabetes Center and the USF South Tampa Campus Adult Endocrinology. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, management and oversight of clinical practices, processes and policies; working hands-on in clinic as needed; identifying areas for strategic initiatives and leading team to successful completion of those initiatives; coordinating efforts to ensure a world-class patient experience.

Position Requirements

- ACLS certification preferred
- BLS/AED certification required

Educational Requirements: Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Florida License as Registered Professional Nurse. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.

Experience Requirements: Minimum 7 years nursing experience and 3 years supervisory experience.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Percentage 25

Responsible for the scheduling, assignment, and supervision of nursing and clinical support staff within the USF Health Diabetes & Endocrinology clinical program.
Supervises and conducts orientation and cross-training of performance within the assigned clinical areas. Satisfactorily manages the diverse patient load and meets staffing mix. Develops and analyzes the quality of patient care and institutes changes in policies, procedures and clinical protocols as they occur. Validates all clinical staff competencies and provides on-going training, mentoring, and staff development for all personnel under his/her supervision within the practice sites. Authority to hire, fire, train, evaluate, and discipline in consultation with the Senior Management of the Health Informatics Institute (HII). Responsible for evaluating employees in accordance with established criteria.

Percentage 25

Responsible for the business operations of the clinical practice such as staffing productivity, supply chain (adequate inventory levels, proper storage, expiration dates, usage, and cost effectiveness), monitoring space/room and equipment utilization, manage and maintain practice session allocations and schedules ensuring timely and accurate data. Serve as process or performance improvement champion and identify opportunity for operational efficiency and collaborate with staff and/or USFPG committee to make marked improvements. Meet with Dept. Administration regularly to discuss areas of opportunity or concern.

Percentage 25

Responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations of the department including, but not limited to patient throughput, triaging care, supervising message management, assisting with patient care, medication management, and patient education. Develop plan and implement programs for direct patient care for the Department, as well as developing the provision of data for budgetary process.

Percentage 15

Promotes high-level customer service at all patient touch points, including service recovery. Tracks and trends patient satisfaction and provides reports to senior management of Surgery department. Develops clinical outcome measures to achieve optimal patient care.
Establishes standards of performance for each staff position and ensures expectations are met.

Percentage 5

Acts as liaison with other clinical and ancillary support services within the practice sites. In this capacity, this individual coordinates within nursing procedures that directly or indirectly affect those services. Attends assigned meetings, representing the Department. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with physicians, patients, and other staff members, emphasizing teamwork and cooperation within the organization.
