Position Summary

Assists staff, providers, residents and medical students with patient care, clerical, and organizational tasks using a team based approach in providing patient care. Responsible for appointment scheduling, diagnostic testing and medical record management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the care services. Will perform/assist all/with all functions/tasks necessary to allow for a smooth patient encounter. Conveys a positive image of USF Health. May be assigned to specific medical specialty (e.g., surgery, cardiology, neurology, etc.) to help with patient care related to that specialty or may be expected to cross-cover multiple specialties. Will adhere to all policies and procedures of both the USFPG and the Department of Urology. Incumbent must be professional at all times and use good judgment in performing all duties as described. Deals discreetly with sensitive, confidential information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

Note: Must successfully demonstrate competencies within job position.

Position Requirements

Licensed Practical Nurse (graduate of an approved program)
•Current Florida License
•One year general nursing experience
•Any equivalent combination of education and experience

Physical Demands

Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Duties

Patient Care Management
•Perform general nursing duties in accordance with established standards and practices of the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
•Will provide patient care support for any/all department faculty, residents and other providers as required.
•Nursing duties may include but are not limited to assisting with the patient exam/treatments, obtaining patient vitals, conduct basic lab procedures, collect specimens, perform phlebotomy, and will provide injections and IVs as necessary.
•Will assist with minor surgical or diagnostic procedures, etc.
•Will maintain professional nursing license and CPR certification.

Duties

Organizational Tasks
•Will schedule all diagnostic testing and labs, including but not limited to x-rays, MRI’s, CT’s, ultrasounds, urodynamics, etc.
•Will act as liaison between the department and both internal and external test centers such as SmithKline, HLMCC, Lab Corp, etc.
•Will ensure that copies of orders are given to the Financial Specialist and entered into the electronic record to authorize testing.
•Will f/u on receipt of labs and diagnostic test results and enter into electronic record.

Duties

•Will prepare charts prior to patient visits ensuring all notes and results are received and available.
•Will notify Financial Specialist with a telephone call/message of each procedure being performed prior to but no later than at the time it is being performed – IF AND ONLY IF THERE IS NO AUTHORIZATION FOR A PROCEDURE AT THE TIME OF SERVICE.

Duties

•Return patient phone calls as necessary.
•Call in prescription refills as necessary.
•Relay messages/instructions to/from patients/faculty/professional staff/residents, etc. as necessary and utilizing “task” as available.
•Will act as liaison between surgery scheduler and physician to support scheduling function.
•Will act a liaison between patient and physician.

Duties

•Clean instruments and put away daily, re-stock exam rooms, order supplies, and assist Clinic Supervisor with annual inventory of instruments.

•Able to cover for Medical Assistant, and Clinic Supervisor as necessary. Able to schedule patient appointments and coordinate emergency visits or add-ons.

•Provide BLS/AED as needed.
•Other duties as assigned.
