Position Summary

Perform all obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound exams in the department and report findings.

Position Requirements

Educational Requirements: Graduated from a formal (accredited) Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. Must be registered/certified with an accredited program.

Experience Requirements: 1-3 years minimum

Skill Requirements: Performing basic obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound examinations meeting physician’s expectations.

Preferred Attributes: Demonstrates effective and appropriate verbal, non-verbal and written communication. Maintains composure and professionalism during difficult situations. Channels concerns and suggestions appropriately.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity. Work Schedule Summary

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Percentage 76%

Performs all obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound exams and record findings. This includes routine obstetrical ultrasound exams, abdominal and vaginal, as well as level II exams for fetal anomalies. Performs fetal well- being studies including biophysical profiles on high risk pregnant women. Assists in genetic amniocentesis, chorionic villus sampling and other procedures as ordered. Performs routine gynecologic exams including those with a vaginal ultrasound probe and also assists in ovulation induction studies and ovum retrieval at invitro fertilization procedures.

Percentage 4%

Makes recommendations for equipment purchase. Responsible for Quality Control and ultrasound maintenance. Maintains supplies. Retains all medical ultrasound records and maintains patient log with dates and results.

Percentage 15%

Participates in research projects. Supervises and teaches residents how to perform ultrasound exams.

Percentage 5%
