Position Summary

The main responsibility for this position will be overseeing patient care while in the pre-op and PACU departments. Provides nursing care within prevailing national and state standards of practice and the policies of the facility. Requires a broad understanding of the nursing care needs of the surgical and
anesthesia specialties. Demonstrates clinical competency and teaching capabilities.

Position Requirements

Educational Requirements:
Minimum high school diploma. Currently licensed as a RN in the State of Florida. Certification in Basic Life Support required and must be maintained. Advanced Cardiac Life Support required and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required. CPAN or CAPA certification preferred.

Experience Requirements:
Minimum of three years’ experience in an ICU, preoperative or PACU setting required. Working knowledge and proficiency in using electronic health records preferred.

Business Skill Requirements:
Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques. Ability to administer prescribed medication and provide direct patient care. Has understanding of aseptic technique. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written. Able to work under physical and mental stress. Ability to participate as a member of multi-disciplinary team in the implementation of treatment for individual patients. Ability to observe patient’s physical and behavioral reactions to identify problems related to the patient’s illness in conjunction with therapeutic plan, and suggests plans for resolution.

Physical Demands

Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity. Work Schedule Summary

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Percentage 60

Plans, coordinates and oversees patient care in the pre-op, recovery and PACU areas. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to the other team members. Plans, implements and evaluates pre-op and PACU nursing care for patients of all ages based on individual, specific patient needs and according to physicians’ orders. Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against blood borne pathogens.

Percentage 20

Participates in all patient care activities as necessary. Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge in intravenous therapy, medication administration and effects, patient assessment, airway maintenance, arrhythmia detection, patient teaching emotional/social support of patients and families, proper body mechanics and other clinical competencies. Remains calm and functions as a team member during times of stress and crisis situation.

Percentage 15

Organizes and prepares medical records of patients. Documents care appropriately and fully. Follows up on missing data and patient’s needs. Enacts patient and family centered care, including wellness-centered approach to care. Participates in Quality Improvement activities. Seeks involvement in activities that promote professional growth and behavior.
