Position Summary

Assists faculty physicians, residents, medical students and senior nursing staff with patient care, clerical and organizational tasks within the scope of this position and under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor. Responsible for appointment scheduling, diagnostic testing and medical record management. Provides information to patients related to their encounter and relevant to their condition. Will perform/assist all/with all functions/tasks necessary to allow for a smooth patient encounter. Conveys a positive image of USF Health. Will adhere to all policies and procedures of both the USFPG and the Department of Urology. Incumbent must be professional at all times and use good judgment in performing all duties as described. Deals discreetly with sensitive, confidential information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.

Position Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent; LPN license in Florida; CPR Certification. BLS and AED certification is required and must be maintained; demonstrated competency within 90 days required.

Experience: Two years experience in similar out-patient facility.

Skills: Must have working knowledge of medical office procedures and simple patient care tests and treatments. Must have ability to use good judgment and initiative. Must be efficient, organized and professional and be able to function in a very fast-paced environment. Must be able to stay focused on the task at hand and filter distractions.

Preferred Attributes: Urology or similar experience a plus.

Physical Demands

Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity. Work Schedule Summary

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Percentage 50

•Perform general nursing duties in accordance with established standards and practices of the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
•Will provide patient care support for any/all department faculty, residents and other providers as required.
•Nursing duties may include but are not limited to assisting with the patient exam/treatments, obtaining patient vitals, conduct basic lab procedures, collect specimens, perform phlebotomy, and will provide injections and IVs as necessary.
•Will assist with minor surgical or diagnostic procedures, etc.
•Will maintain professional nursing license and CPR certification.

Percentage 20

•Will schedule all diagnostic testing and labs, including but not limited to x-rays, MRI’s, CT’s, ultrasounds, urodynamics, etc.
•Will act as liaison between the department and both internal and external test centers such as SmithKline, HLMCC, Lab Corp, etc.
•Will ensure that copies of orders are given to the Financial Specialist and entered into the electronic record to authorize testing.
•Will f/u on receipt of labs and diagnostic test results and enter into electronic record.

Percentage 15

•Will prepare charts prior to patient visits ensuring all notes and results are received and available.
•Will notify Financial Specialist with a telephone call/message of each procedure being performed prior to but no later than at the time it is being performed – IF AND ONLY IF THERE IS NO AUTHORIZATION FOR A PROCEDURE AT THE TIME OF SERVICE.

Percentage 2

•Clean instruments and put away daily, re-stock exam rooms, order supplies, and assist Clinic Supervisor with annual inventory of instruments.

Percentage 2

•Able to cover for Medical Assistant, and Clinic Supervisor as necessary. Able to schedule patient appointments and coordinate emergency visits or add-ons.

Percentage 10

•Return patient phone calls as necessary.
•Call in prescription refills as necessary.
•Relay messages/instructions to/from patients/faculty/professional staff/residents, etc. as necessary and utilizing “task” as available.
•Will act as liaison between surgery scheduler and physician to support scheduling function.
•Will act a liaison between patient and physician.

Percentage 1

•Provide BLS/AED as needed.
•Other duties as assigned.
